This Universe
Sheltered, unlearned, we move
through space and time,
unaware, lost maybe,
of the surrounding atmosphere.
The world.
To know oneself, is to know one’s
surroundings. But so ignorant of
soft soil and fresh air, how is that
possible, if we don’t take the time?
To feel, to care.
The city life, envelops the mind, erasing
the sense of the importance of time.
That tree on the corner will continue
to grow, but will you ever notice?
Will you ever know?
Collapsed, is the wall that conceals
that which is material things. Built-up, the wall
which hides the qualities and secrets
of life, itself. We, forever barred from
the truth.
We must rise to the challenge,
fight the swooping age of technology
to enjoy what’s left of the beautiful
earth. Before you know it, it will be
gone, extinct if you will, and there
will be nothing you can do to
stop the end. To live is not enough.
To experience is the goal. To un-taint
our children and open their eyes to
This universe.
Hannah, it’s obvious you have become more comfortable writing poetry. This poem is very reflective of that. The title, stanza and message are phenomenal. Like you would say “awww yeah”
